Everything you need to know about using WavePlay — from getting started to advanced creator tools.

Getting started

No. You can browse and watch all public videos on WavePlay without creating an account. An account is only needed to upload videos, comment, like, or use features like playlists and Watch Party.
Click Sign up in the top-right corner. You only need a username and password — no email address required. Your account is ready immediately.
If you’re signed in, open the account menu in the top-right corner and select Dark mode or Light mode. If you’re browsing as a guest, click the moon/sun toggle button in the navbar. Your preference is saved automatically.

Uploading videos

WavePlay accepts most common video formats including MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, and WebM. The maximum file size is 2 GB per video.
On the upload page, scroll down to the Thumbnail section. You can either upload your own image, or use the built-in frame picker to grab any frame directly from your video by scrubbing the preview.
Yes. On the upload page, set a future date and time in the Scheduled Publish field. Your video will be hidden from the public until that date and time, then automatically go live.
In the upload form, find the Chapters section. Add a timestamp (in seconds) and a chapter title for each section. Chapters appear as markers on the video progress bar, making it easy for viewers to jump to specific parts.
On the upload page, use the Privacy dropdown to choose Public, Unlisted (visible only to people with the direct link), or Private (only visible to you).

Watching videos

WavePlay automatically saves your position every few seconds as you watch. When you return to the same video, a banner will appear offering to resume from where you left off. If you’re signed in, your progress is saved to your account so you can resume on any device. Guests have progress stored locally in their browser.
Click the 🎬 Theatre button below the video player to enter Theatre Mode. This expands the player to full content width, dims the page to a deep cinematic dark, and pins the related videos panel to the side. Click Exit Theatre to return to normal view.
Click Mini Player below the video or scroll away from the player — a small floating player will appear in the bottom-right corner so you can keep watching while you browse the rest of the site.
Click the From here button below the player. It copies a link that starts playback at your current position. Share it anywhere and the viewer will jump straight to that moment.

Riding & community

Riding Along is WavePlay’s version of following a creator. Click 🌊 Ride Along on any video or profile to follow that creator. Their new uploads will appear in your Riding feed.
On any video page, click Party to create a Watch Party. You’ll get a 6-character room code — share it with friends. When they click Join Party and enter the code, everyone’s playback stays in sync automatically.
